The city of Portsmouth is the UK’s only Island City, characterised by the Solent to the south and the environmentally significant harbours of Langstone and Portsmouth to the east and west. As home to the Royal Navy and with a population of over 200,000 people the risk of coastal flooding poses a major challenge to the city. Coastal Partners on behalf of Portsmouth City Council are delivering an ambitious £220m construction programme to deliver not only flood defences but also improved public realm and regeneration of this city destination. The talk will explore the complexities of both the Southsea Coastal Scheme and the North Portsea Island Scheme through the eyes of the projects Senior Programme Manager.   

Marc Bryan is the Major Projects Manager at Coastal Partners, a joint coastal flood and erosion risk management team hosted by five local authorities on the south coast. Since graduating with a MEng degree in Civil Engineering Marc has built a career specialising in the delivery of capital projects to protect communities from the risk of coastal flooding. Marc is an NEC contract specialist, accredited NEC3/4 ECC Project Manager and the framework manager for the Southern Coastal Group, Coastal, Flood and Infrastructure Professional Services Framework. Marc leads the portfolio of projects being delivered in Portsmouth as the schemes Senior Programme Manager.
