In this talk, Diego Padilla will discuss the following topics as part of the work he does on decarbonizing buildings.
– The importance of embodied carbon.
– Best practice in building design, and how AI is changing the design process.
– Early stage multi-objective-optioneering.
– To build or not to build? How re-using existing buildings is key to a sustainable future.
As a Decarbonisation Lead Diego works towards creating zero carbon buildings to address the climate emergency. Over the last 4 years Diego has led the creation of WSP’s Structures decarbonisation roadmap and delivered on its commitment. He has driven transformational change across eleven regions and upskilled more than 300 engineers who lead over 500 projects every year.
Diego is also supporting clients to measure and understand the carbon emissions of their assets and prepare portfolio decarbonisation strategies for existing and new buildings. He is supporting several projects navigating new planning requirements to achieve low carbon and Net Zero buildings.
Diego’s current focus is on digital innovation, harvesting the power of AI to create tools and processes that help engineers, designers and clients to create better buildings.
As a structural engineer his experience varies from tall building design to complex basements, from office refurbishments to luxury hotels. He was the lead engineer for the design and delivery of 22 Bishopsgate in London, which he has presented at previous CIGPE events.
For Jersey lectures in 2024, we have started a new way of presenting and this will be at the Ouless Room at the Jersey Museum. The doors will open at 5:00pm for a 5:30pm start, with complimentary tea and coffee on arrival. We have limited capacity so if you wish to attend the lecture free bookings can be made via Eventbrite.
