Inclusive Design

Guernsey: Wednesday 22nd October 2025 – 7:30pm – Les Cotils

Jersey: Thursday 23rd October 2025 – 5:30pm – Jersey Museum (Ouless Room)

Human nature means we can sometimes we can be inadvertently egocentric. It easier often to assume that everyone’s world is the same as our own.
Join ICE Southwest Future Leader’s Meg Ginsberg and Alex Buley as they challenge your perspective around inclusion and what inclusive design means.

Experience life through a different lens. Through a series of simulations experience what the world is like for people who through either physical, or neurological differences have very different world experiences to your own.
Explore the ethical and moral obligations engineers have towards inclusive design and society. Discuss what inclusive design and infrastructure is, with examples of bad and good inclusive infrastructure, and lived experiences. Discuss how engineers can design and build spaces against often conflicting inclusive requirements. A thought-provoking workshop around accessibility, inclusion, and equity.

Meg Ginsberg is an Assistant Project Manager at AtkinsRéalis and the founder of Construct Ability. She is working to make the construction industry more accessible to all, with her initiative helping disabled people enter and thrive in construction and engineering. She will be talking about her own personal experiences as a wheelchair user in the industry, the importance of adaptive PPE, and inclusive design.

Alex Buley is a Senior Chartered engineer with a background in highways, public realm, and active travel design. Throughout his career, Alex has championed a modal shift towards more active travel through inclusive infrastructure design, making sure spaces are usable by all. Alex will be discussing his experiences of being neurodivergence and how to design for neurological differences in particular.

For Jersey lectures, we have started a new way of presenting and this will be at the Ouless Room at the Jersey Museum. The doors will open at 5:00pm for a 5:30pm start, with complimentary tea and coffee on arrival. We have limited capacity so if you wish to attend the lecture free bookings can be made via Eventbrite.

We would like to thank the following companies for sponsoring this event.
