Guernsey: Wednesday 16th October 7:30pm, Les Cotils
Jersey: Thursday 17th October 5:30pm, Jersey Museum
Some older Jersey and Guernsey residents may recall the names of Thomas and Dorothée Pullinger, a father and daughter both with lives bound up in engineering of various kinds, as both of them lived out their latter years in the Channel Islands. Their stories and enterprises ranged geographically from the south of France to the middle of Scotland taking in bicycles, automobiles, cows and laundries along the way. Dorothée was the first woman to be inducted into the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame and is recognised for her work in automobile engineering and in the munitions efforts of both world wars.
Engineering historian, Dr Nina Baker, has made this family a special research interest of hers and will join CIGPE to relate how the Pullingers added enterprise and labour-management to their engineering skills to generate successful businesses in both the UK and Guernsey.
For Jersey lectures in 2024, we have started a new way of presenting and this will be at the Ouless Room at the Jersey Museum. The doors will open at 5:00pm for a 5:30pm start, with complimentary tea and coffee on arrival. We have limited capacity so if you wish to attend the lecture free bookings can be made via Eventbrite.
We would like to thank the following companies for sponsoring this event.
