Disaster Relief Management

Guernsey: Wednesday 17th April 7:30pm, Les Cotils

Jersey: Thursday 18th April 5:30pm, Jersey Museum

RedR UK strengthens the capacity of agencies, aid workers, and affected communities to prepare, respond and recover from complex humanitarian crises. Recognised by the Financial Times as a leading organisation helping to rebuild a broken world, RedR provides learning and development services for the humanitarian and development sectors, envisioning a world in which highly skilled professionals respond effectively, inclusively, and sustainably to disasters globally.

With RedR’s strong roots in bridging the gap between the humanitarian and engineering sectors this presentation will explain the importance of equipping local responders with technical and non-technical expertise needed for an effective response and will draw on recent  experiences from a diverse range of post-disaster contexts, including RedR’s response in Libya, Morocco, Türkiye, Syria and Ukraine.

Simon Boas, Executive Director of Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA), will be providing a brief introduction to the lecture in Jersey. JOA, the island’s official publicly-funded aid and development agency, has supported a number of projects through RedR. JOA grants have enabled RedR to build the capacity of humanitarian action in Ukraine, and to train engineers for earthquake recovery and response in the wake of both the Syria/Türkiye and Morocco earthquakes in 2023. By providing technical training to those responding to disasters, RedR is able to rapidly support sustainable and locally-led recovery.

For Jersey lectures in 2024, we have started a new way of presenting and this will be at the Ouless Room at the Jersey Museum. The doors will open at 5:00pm for a 5:30pm start, with complimentary tea and coffee on arrival. We have limited capacity so if you wish to attend the lecture free bookings can be made via Eventbrite.

We would like to thank the following companies for sponsoring this event.
