A unique and complex structure with twisting, folding exterior walls. V&A Dundee combines ambitious modern architecture with a dramatic location on the banks of the River Tay. It is designed by Japanese architects Kengo Kuma & Associates, with structural engineering by Arup.

Dan Clipsom is a chartered structural engineer and automation specialist who has built a career path over 16 years at Arup that bridges the gap between traditional design approaches and new advanced digital possibilities. He lead the structural design for V&A Dundee, working with the architect to develop the structural form of the building and delivering the detailed design of the complex curved concrete walls that form the outer shell of the building.
